Frequently Asked Questions

What is the life limit of an oxygen bottle?

The life limit of an oxygen bottle is based on the DOT rating of the cylinder.  There are three ratings types:

DOT Rating Life Limit Hydrotest Period
AA Unlimited 5 yrs
HT 24 3 yrs
CO 15 3 yrs

Do I need to purchase a new oxygen assembly if my cylinder expired?

No you don’t.  Just send the unit into CAG and we can repair your regulator plus provide you with a replacement cylinder in NEW or OHC condition.  Also, CAG can provide an exchange to you when your cylinder is expired.  We send you the assembly you want and you send us the regulator as the core.

Do oxygen assemblies need to go in a special case?

It depends on the method of shipment.  If the ship method is FP1 or the unit is shipping outside the United States, then yes, the unit must go in an ATA case, which CAG supplies.  Otherwise, you do not have to use an ATA case.  However, sometimes the unit will shift inside the box causing damage to the gauge. CAG recommends using an ATA case since it offers the best protection for your unit. Hand held units should be packed in small case and crew bottles should be packed in a large case.

What services does an inspection cover?

An inspection of an oxygen bottle covers a hydrotest of the cylinder, a functional test of the regulator or valve (sometimes referred to as a bench test) and refilling the cylinder with oxygen.

Does CAG offer exchanges?

Yes we do. We have over $3.0 million of rotable material in stock covering a wide application of aircraft. CAG ships the exchange unit in OHC condition, and you have 15 days to ship us the core. We almost always will ship the OHC exchange unit with a fresh dual release tag from CAG Industries.

What should I do if I don’t ship hazmat?

If you’re business is located within 200 miles of NYC then CAG will pickup and deliver it…for free!  Just contact us and we will schedule it.  If your business is located further than 200 miles from CAG, you can ask if someone else on or near the airport has hazmat shipping capability and they can do it.  Or you can look for a local shipping agent that can provide the service.  These options are usually $75 - $100 additional cost to the shipping expense, but if you do not ship hazmat frequently, they are the most practical solutions.

I don’t see the OEM of a unit I need serviced, can CAG help me?

Yes we can.  We offer the same pickup and delivery service for any unit we do not show capabilities on.  CAG will manage the entire repair process saving you the time and expense of dealing with hazmat material.
