Frequently Asked Questions

What does the recertification fee include in an evacuation slide and a life raft?

The recertification fee includes all the costs associated with recertifying the evacuation slide. These costs include receiving inspection, unpacking, air retentions tests, relief valve test, hydro test of the reservoir cylinder, hydro test of the hoses, bench test of the aspirators, minimal patchwork, overhaul of the reservoir valves, packing, and the issuance of an accurate 8130/work order documentation. CAG would charge additional costs for parts and services outside the scope of the standard recertification (above). The most common occurrences include:

What is the recertification period for slides, rafts and vests?

The recent period depends upon the part number and the OEM, but as a general rule of thumb, evacuation slides get three years, life rafts get one or three years and life vests get one, three or five years.

What are the causes of a pressure gauge reading “in the red” on a reservoir cylinder?

The pressure gauge is called a “temperature compensating gauge” and its function is to compensate for an increase or decrease in temperature. So even if the temperature increases, as long as the gauge needle falls within the band of the compensating cursor, the bottle pressure is within manufacturers’ limits, whether it be high or low pressure. As an example, cold weather can cause the needle to display a lower pressure than the pressure in the bottle. But this is ok because the compensating cursor will indicate the proper pressure for that temperature. There is a pressure problem if the gauge needle is not within the compensating cursor band. The two common causes of the pressure being incorrect is leakage and not allowing the reservoir assembly to settle prior to installation on the aircraft.

Does CAG offer exchanges?

Yes we do. We have over $3.0 million of rotable material in stock covering a wide application of aircraft. CAG ships the exchange unit in OHC condition, and you have 15 days to ship us the core. We almost always will ship the OHC exchange unit with a fresh dual release tag from CAG Industries.

What should I do if I don’t ship hazmat?

If you’re business is located within 200 miles of NYC then CAG will pickup and deliver it…for free! Just contact us and we will schedule it. If your business is located further than 200 miles from CAG, you can ask if someone else on or near the airport has hazmat shipping capability and they can do it. Or you can look for a local shipping agent that can provide the service. These options are usually $75 - $100 additional cost to the shipping expense, but if you do not ship hazmat frequently, they are the most practical solutions.

I don’t see the OEM of a unit I need serviced, can CAG help me?

Yes we can. We offer the same pickup and delivery service for any unit we do not show capabilities on. CAG will manage the entire repair process saving you the time and expense of dealing with hazmat material.
